Ai and Cerebras Systems offer sharply different ways to invest in artificial intelligence: BigBear. Ai sells decision-intelligence software largely to government and defense customers, while Cerebras builds wafer-scale processors and provides cloud services for demanding AI workloads. Their latest financial results show a widening gap in scale and growth, alongside substantial risks for both companies.
The company’s concentration in federal and defense work leaves it exposed to changes in government procurement and contract timing. Ai also faces a material class-action lawsuit and work involving the restatement of earlier financial statements.
Negative shareholder equity means its liabilities exceeded book equity at the end of 2025, adding balance-sheet risk despite the reported profit.
The company’s momentum continued into the second quarter of 2026.
Cerebras is expanding through partnerships as it competes with larger chip and cloud companies. Amazon plans to make Cerebras-based inference available through Amazon Bedrock, while Cerebras also announced collaborations with AMD and continued work with customers including OpenAI. The company expects its AWS disaggregated-inference offering to deliver up to five times higher throughput and enter production in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the Amazon Bedrock service expected in the first quarter of 2027.
That growth comes with execution risks. Cerebras must expand data-center and manufacturing capacity, secure component supply and convert large contractual obligations into recognized revenue. Its hardware also competes in a market where Amazon, Nvidia, AMD and other major companies are developing alternative AI-computing systems.
Ai, but its faster sales growth and expanding cloud business provide stronger operating momentum. Ai offers exposure to government-focused AI software, yet its declining annual revenue, large loss, customer concentration and legal and reporting challenges make it the weaker of the two risk-adjusted growth stories based on the disclosed results.
