Bloom Energy’s AI-fueled rally faces an execution test after shares retreat from their 2026 peak

Bloom Energy shares have fallen about 31% from their 2026 high, underscoring the volatility surrounding a company whose valuation has risen sharply with demand for electricity from artificial-intelligence data centers.

The pullback followed a steep run-up tied to large power contracts and growing interest in Bloom’s solid-oxide fuel-cell systems. The company has agreements involving Oracle, AEP and Brookfield, while its technology provides on-site electricity from natural gas, biogas or hydrogen without combustion. Bloom’s systems are designed to operate continuously, a feature that appeals to data-center operators facing grid-connection delays.

Bloom’s operating results have strengthened alongside that demand. Its total current backlog was approximately $20 billion at year-end, including about $6 billion in product backlog, which had increased roughly 2. 5 times from a year earlier.

Momentum accelerated in 2026. Bloom raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to between $3. 9 billion and $4. 2 billion after the quarter.

The company’s growth case is tied to a shortage of quickly deployable power. Bloom says traditional grid expansion can take years because of interconnection queues, permitting and transmission constraints. Independent coverage reported that Bloom can provide at least some on-site power within months, although its systems require higher upfront costs and still produce carbon emissions when fueled by natural gas.

The central question for investors through 2030 is whether Bloom can convert its backlog and new contracts into sustained revenue and stronger profitability. The company identifies supply constraints, installation delays, policy changes, fuel availability, manufacturing capacity and any slowdown in AI-data-center construction as risks. Its latest results show rapid expansion, but the retreat from the peak reflects how much of the stock’s value depends on successful execution of future projects.
