Intel targets 700 TOPS Razor Lake-AX robotics chip for 2028

Intel has placed its Razor Lake-AX system-on-chip on a 2028 robotics roadmap, with a stated target of about 700 trillion operations per second of AI performance. The platform is being positioned for robotics and humanoid systems rather than as a conventional consumer processor.

Intel executive Cho Min-sung presented the roadmap on Oct. 16 at the Semiconductors Powering Humanoids conference in Seoul. The plan places robotics products based on Nova Lake in early 2027, followed by Razor Lake-AX in 2028.

The 700-TOPS figure would be nearly four times the theoretical AI throughput Intel lists for its current Panther Lake-based platform.

The comparison remains limited because Intel has not publicly specified the numerical precision, power envelope or exact CPU, GPU and NPU contributions behind the Razor Lake-AX target. That makes 700 TOPS a roadmap performance goal, not a published shipping specification or benchmark result.

The roadmap also gives a clearer role to a chip previously associated with leaks about a large integrated GPU and possible on-package memory.

Intel’s near-term robotics effort is centered on Panther Lake development systems, including the Robinson Bay reference platform and software such as OpenVINO and Robotics AI Suite. The company expects some customers to begin mass-producing autonomous mobile robots in 2027, with humanoid systems targeted for 2028, matching the planned arrival of Razor Lake-AX.
