The arrangement is designed to let organizations use OpenAI systems within their existing Google Cloud environments, alongside the platform’s data-governance controls and infrastructure.
Google Cloud customers will be able to obtain the models through Google Cloud Marketplace, with purchases charged against existing Google Cloud spending commitments. The companies said the models will also become available in Google Antigravity and Gemini Agent, giving enterprise users more options for selecting models across coding, computer use, professional work and other agentic tasks.
The initial rollout is limited. OpenAI’s access program says selected customers can evaluate its models through the Responses API for approved development and internal testing, while Codex can be used through its app, command-line interface and supported integrated development environments. The preview is invite-only, and the companies are planning broader availability in the coming weeks.
It described Astra as intended for demanding coding, computer-use, professional and scientific workloads; Sol as a lower-cost option for agentic coding and professional work; and Luna as a faster model for everyday use at scale.
The deal expands OpenAI’s distribution beyond its established Microsoft relationship and follows the company’s broader cloud push, including general availability of its models and Codex on Amazon Web Services. For Google Cloud, the partnership adds a major competing model family to a platform that already offers more than 200 first-party, third-party and open models. The companies have not announced pricing or a firm date for general availability.
