Peter Thiel’s investment firm, Thiel Macro, reported Amazon and Vistra as its two largest disclosed artificial-intelligence-related holdings at the end of the second quarter. Together, the positions accounted for roughly 42% of the disclosed portfolio.
Amazon’s appeal rests largely on the rapid expansion of Amazon Web Services.
Amazon is also applying artificial intelligence across its retail and logistics operations. The company said it has hundreds of generative-AI applications supporting activities such as inventory placement, demand forecasting and delivery, while its warehouse robots increasingly use software to improve efficiency. Its cloud offering includes custom Trainium and Graviton chips, the Bedrock development platform and managed AI services for businesses.
Vistra gives the portfolio exposure to the electricity infrastructure needed by expanding data centers. The company operates nuclear, natural-gas, coal, solar and battery facilities and also sells power to retail customers.
Vistra said the contracts would support further license-extension work at the plants, while the electricity will continue flowing through the regional grid for all users.
The disclosures link Thiel Macro’s two biggest positions to separate parts of the AI buildout: Amazon supplies computing capacity and AI tools, while Vistra supplies generation that can support rising electricity demand.
