A Bitcoin wallet that received its holdings shortly before the March 2020 market crash transferred about 4,582 BTC to five new addresses on Monday. The coins were valued at roughly $377. 6 million when moved.
Four recipient addresses received 1,000 BTC each, while the fifth received about 582 BTC. None had moved the coins when the transfer was recorded.
Nine days later, Bitcoin fell more than 40% to below $4,000 during pandemic-driven market turmoil. The cryptocurrency has not returned to that level, leaving the transferred holdings worth about nine times their value at receipt.
The wallet made no substantial outgoing transfer for more than four years.
The transfer alone does not establish that the owner is preparing to sell. Moving coins from a long-held wallet can precede a sale, but dividing them among new addresses can also reflect an internal transfer or a security-related change in custody. The purpose of Monday’s movement remains unresolved while the Bitcoin remains in the receiving addresses.
