JPMorgan Asset Management has included Bitcoin in its 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions for the first time, assigning the cryptocurrency a projected 10% annualized compound return over a 10- to 15-year horizon.
The assumptions are part of the firm’s 31st annual outlook, which evaluates more than 200 asset classes for strategic allocation and policy planning. The firm said its forecasts are not intended as short-term trading signals.
Bitcoin’s projected return comes with substantially higher modeled risk. Its annualized volatility is estimated at 55%, compared with about 18% for U.S. Bitcoin also remains outside JPMorgan’s main covariance matrices because its correlations with other assets have been unstable, limiting the case for using it as a strategic portfolio diversifier.
The analysis presents Bitcoin as a speculative asset and a possible hedge against monetary easing rather than a conventional core holding.
Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan welcomed Bitcoin’s arrival in the long-term framework.
JPMorgan’s outlook places Bitcoin within formal long-range asset research while preserving a clear distinction between a high projected return and a usable diversification role. The firm’s next step is to continue treating Bitcoin as a separately modeled asset rather than including it in the main portfolio-construction framework.
