CleanTech Lithium has secured options to acquire two lithium brine properties in Argentina’s Salar de Antofalla, adding the Genoveva and Sal de Litio 1 licences to its South American portfolio. The properties, together called the Antofalla project, are in Catamarca Province about 80 kilometres from the company’s Laguna Verde project and next to an exploration property held by Albemarle.
The agreements allow CleanTech to acquire both properties outright, but their exploration potential has not yet been established.
CleanTech describes Antofalla as Argentina’s largest undeveloped salt flat and sees potential to share infrastructure and processing facilities with Laguna Verde and its Viento Andino project. Chief executive Ignacio Mehech said Laguna Verde remains the company’s main focus, while the new project could offer long-term value and development synergies, including possible use of a centralised conversion facility in Copiapó.
Exploration at Antofalla is planned to begin in 2027. That work will provide an early indication of the properties’ resource potential and their possible fit within CleanTech’s wider project portfolio.
