The first concrete has been poured for the gasification unit at the Phase I Shenyang wind-and-solar hydrogen and biomass green methanol demonstration project, moving the core processing area into main structural construction. China Energy Engineering East China Institute is delivering the project under an EPC contract, following the first pile drilling in the same area.
The gasification unit is designed to convert locally sourced biomass into synthesis gas for methanol production. Its foundation must support the later installation and operation of major equipment, including the gasifier. The concrete pour therefore establishes a construction base for the main frame and is tied to the project’s target of lifting the gasifier on schedule.
Construction teams prepared for Shenyang’s narrowing pre-winter work window and falling temperatures by setting procedures for mass-concrete placement, temperature control and curing. Before the pour, participating contractors checked reinforcement, formwork and support-pier positions. During placement, site personnel monitored concrete slump, placement temperature and vibration quality.
The first phase is planned around annual production of 100,000 metric tons of green methanol. Project documents describe a 100-megawatt wind farm, 70 megawatts/140 megawatt-hours of electrochemical storage, biomass preprocessing capacity of 337,000 metric tons a year, two 1,250-normal-cubic-meter-per-hour electrolyzers, a 60,000-normal-cubic-meter hydrogen storage tank and two atmospheric fluidized-bed gasifiers rated at 600 metric tons a day each.
The project is located in the Shenyang Biochemical Industrial Park in Kangping County, Liaoning province.
The next construction sequence is to connect the gasification foundation work with structural erection while maintaining safety and quality controls. The project team has said it will use the remaining favorable construction period before winter to keep the work moving toward planned commissioning.
